What's out of place?
Live the life you've dreamed.-Henry David Thoreau Stop trying to find the right car, the right house, the right friends, the right spouse, the right job and the right life. Take a step back and determine what is out of place. Discover what doesn't belong and get rid of it. Then pursue your dreams.

Honor, commitment and courage
".Half a league, half a league, Half a league onward, All in the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. "Forward, the Light Brigade! "Charge for the guns!" he said: Into the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. 2."Forward, the Light Brigade!" Was there a man dismay'd? Not tho' the soldier knew Someone had blunder'd: Theirs not to make reply, Theirs not to reason why, Theirs but to do and die: Into the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. 3.Cannon to right of them, Cannon to left of them, Cannon in front of them Volley'd and thunder'd; Storm'd at with shot and shell, Boldly they rode and well, Into the jaws of Death, Into the mouth of Hell Rode the six hundred. 4.Flash'd all their sabres bare, Flash'd as they turn'd in air, Sabring the gunners there, Charging an army, while All the world wonder'd: Plunged in the battery-smoke Right thro' the line they broke; Cossack and Russian Reel'd from the sabre stroke Shatter'd and sunder'd. Then they rode back, but not Not the six hundred. 5.Cannon to right of them, Cannon to left of them, Cannon behind them Volley'd and thunder'd; Storm'd at with shot and shell, While horse and hero fell, They that had fought so well Came thro' the jaws of Death Back from the mouth of Hell, All that was left of them, Left of six hundred. 6.When can their glory fade? O the wild charge they made! All the world wondered. Honor the charge they made, Honor the Light Brigade, Noble six hundred." Alfred, Lord Tennyson. If you have never served in the military, para military organization, law enforcement agency, or depended soley on the man or woman standing next to you, in front of you or behind you, for your very life, this poem makes little sense. However, to those of you that have committed your very being at some point you know that without honor commitment and courage very little is accomplished and much less sustained. Risk and reward are bed fellows. Without committing to taking a risk there is no chance of reward. Valor requires a steady hand and steel for a backbone. Onward light Brigade onward 600 with your honor intact.

Let go sometime
"When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be." -Lao Tzu
Often times are pre conceived notion of self is what holds us back, keeps us from flourishing, stifles our nourishment and growth. Do not be so quick to hold on to your current position there may be more in your future but you must deal with your present. Learn to accept that you don't have all the answers. your hope should be that you have most of the questions. Be concerned about individuals or groups who have all the answers for if they have all the answers clearly they have not considered of the right questions.

A kind word is reflection of what's inside
"For a samurai, a simple word is important no matter where he may be. By just one single word martial valor can be made apparent. In peaceful times words show one's bravery. In troubled times, too, one knows that by a single word his strength or cowardice can be seen. This single word is the flower of one's heart." Hagakure Your words convey deep meanings even if you do not. Choose them wisely. Your words will speak volumes long after you are silent.your children cherish your words, your grandchildren will ponder them, your enemies will study them, your friends will remember them, strangers will quote them. Save a kind word for a stranger in need. Give lots of florwers.

A single act of kindness
Finish what you start
"A man with deep far-sightedness will survey both the beginning and the end of a situation and continually consider its every facet as important." The way of the Samurai Considered well the options before you. Utilize your time and strength evenly and finish what you start. Your focus is even more paramount at the finish line.

Throw me to the wolves
There comes a time in everyone's life when you are put in an impossible position. A position so out of bounds that it can potentially shake you to your core. Sometimes it can be exacerbated by your own actions other times it's the result of another's actions, and every once in awhile it's just life. The central unavoidable question is still, what do you do next? Do you give in? Do you fight back? Do you stick your head in the sand? I say, "throw me to the wolves and I shall return leading the pack." Bob Marley
It's not just a dream
Live the life you've dreamed. --Henry David Thoreau Get out and get up. Wake up and get busy. Work to make your dreams a living reality. Unless of course you only enjoy dreaming, that part is easy. Making your dreams real, that's another story.

Friendships
Friendships come in many shapes and sizes. Some friends are emotionally attached and others are intimately distant. There are friends that provide wisdom and logic based feed back and there are friends that just listen and lend their support. I have friends that are problem solvers and I have friends who just comfort me and defer to my better judgment. Some of my friends act with deeds and some provide spiritually uplifting words. All of my friends have many of the same attributes: intelligently sufficient, intellectually proficient, of high moral character, empathetic, sympathetic, nurturing, and too worthy to be in my company. Yet, in varying degrees, I strive to be to others what they have been to me, a friend.

Never look back too long
Never look back unless you are planning to go that way. Henry David Thoreau Far too much time is spent on reflection instead of progression. We engage in removing scabs from a painful past, only to relive the terrible moments as opposed to preparing to move forward and protect ourselves from further injury, while living life to the fullest. Leave yesterday behind and press ever forward. There are a plethora of new battles that require your immediate attention. Never look back too long, you may get stuck there.

Know your purpose
To forget one's purpose is the commonest form of stupidity. --Friedrich Nietzsche
It is truly amazing how many people never consider what it means to live a purposeful life. Never realizing that every action or inaction has consequences.

I have just three things to teach.
“I have just three things to teach: Simplicity, patience, compassion. These three are your greatest treasures. Simple in actions and in thoughts, You return to the source of being. Patient with both friends and enemies, Your accord with the way things are. Compassionate toward yourself, You reconcile all beings in the world.” ~Lao Tzu
Life is not as complicated as we make It out to be. Relationships aren't as complicated as you think. You're either attracted to the wrong persons, not willing to commit, or you have deemed your partner inadequate or not worthy of your respect. It could be your chosen partner is guilty of the same. Perhaps both of you suffer similar dispositions. Patience, consider the value of your time as well as your partner's. If you have little or no patience you have low regard for others. Compassionate towards one's self breeds compassion for others. It is difficult to receive what you are not willing to give. If you lack either of these dispositions you are not ready for relationships with others. You are not in harmony with yourself or others. You will invent reasons for discord. Learn these three things and everything else will fall into place.
We are not oligarchs or tyrants
Both oligarch and tyrant mistrust the people, and therefore deprive them of their arms. --Aristotle
I believe he people must always have the right to dissent in word and deed. I am not the biggest second ammendment guy however, it serves it's purpose in the constitution. Politicians should be concerned with the people holding them accountable for actions as well as their inactions. The police should feel concerns from the people that they serve and protect when they fail to do their jobs properly. Teachers should expect to be fired when they fail to adequately educate our children. None of the aforementioned should fear being fired upon by citizens unable to control their rage and anger over arbitrary issues in life. With rights come responsibilities. The good guys with guns need to start preventing the bad guys from obtaining a gun and when a so called good guy does something bad with a gun, call him on it. Not a sermon, just a thought.

Lose the battle not the war
Only a man who knows what it is like to be defeated can reach down to the bottom of his soul and come up with extra ounce of power it takes to win when the match is even." Muhammad Ali
This life is wrought with wins and losses, ups and downs, joy and heart ache, there are highs and lows, then there are those that see through rose colored glasses. Everything is alright, there is never anything bad or wrong in their lives. I am not one of those blessed creatures. I like to look at life through pragmatic eyes. Yes, I have been defeated, I've suffered losses and endured great pain. I've been cheated, wronged and falsely accused. I have made many mistakes on my own. These things do not define me. My reaction to these things and the lessons I have learned from these things define me. What I do for others ultimately define me. How I now see the world, one people, one planet and one huge family of humanity who's lives are all woven together in the fabric of life. Suffer when you must but, always recover. Lose the battle not the war.
Your death song
“So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide. Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people and grovel to none. When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself. Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision. When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.” chief tecumsah
If you live your life as though you might die one day, you would make the most of every second of every day. It is the fear of death that forces us to discount it entirely. It prevents us from living full lives. We build walls and barriers to forget our mortality. Make no mistake you will die, the question becomes will you have prepared your life to include a death song.

Character
You cannot dream yourself into a character; you must hammer and forge yourself one. -Henry David Thoreau Character must be formed in the crucible of time and hard work. Hoping and wishing will not get it done. Much like a workout in the gym it requires a total body commitment to achieve true character. Not just shoulders and arms, not just chest and back but legs as well. Generally, this comes in the form of loving parents, sometimes it comes from a coach in the gym or on the playing field, its been known to come from a wonderful teacher in the classroom, once in a while it comes from a drill instructor in the military, it can even come from a stranger on the street, and every now and then an inspiring author. However the opportunity presents presents itself, seize it every time. Evaluate and assess life's journey regularly. Learn from your mistakes and the mistakes of others. Then make yourself available to teach, mentor and instruct others as you too have learned. This is true character.

Make your own reality
"No one ever is defeated until defeat has been accepted as a reality." Napoleon Hill
Perception is not reality. Deductive reason is reality. This can only occur when all of the facts have been gathered. Until you you have finished gathering all of the facts and nothing more remains, it's not over.
